    UPSC allows withdrawal of applications

It has bee found by UPSC that roughly 50% of aspirants of premier Government cadre based services recruitment examination who enroll for the UPSC examination failing to take even the ‘preliminary’ test, UPSC has decided to let non serious and under-prepared candidates withdraw their application before the examination. The facility has been started with the the Engineering Services Examination 2019 and will be extended to all recruitment exams conducted by UPSC, including the civil services examination and onward.

UPSC informed  on Monday,  1st October, 2018 that while 9.58 lakh candidates applied for the civil services exam in 2017, no more than 4.57 lakh appeared for the preliminary test. “But the commission had to book venues, print papers, hire invigilators and ship documents for all the 10 lakh applicants. If we are able to work with only the serious candidates, we can give them better facilities,” said UPSC Chairman.

UPSC is also working on shifting from the pen-and-paper model to online exams. “The new system will be more candidate-friendly and also serve to cut down the time cycle for each examination,” UPSC Chairman Saxena said.

Saxena added that the commission was disclosing scores of non-recommended candidates in some exams on its website. “This is aimed at helping candidates who do not make it to the merit list. They can now get picked up for jobs from the same database,” the chairman said.
