In pursuance of State resolution of Department of Tourism, Art, Culture, Sports & Youth Affairs, Government of Jharkhand has established a Sports University and Sports Academy to promote the state sports in association with Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), Ranchi.

The Jharkhand State Sports Promotion Society (JSSPS) is a unique unconventional CSR initiative of Central Coalfields Ltd which administers and operates the Mega Sports Complex, Khelgaon, and Astroturf Hockey Stadium, Morabadi.


The Academy is presently managed by a Local Management Committee (LMC) of Officers from Central Coalfields Ltd (CIL). Coaches, have been selected from across the country and are of international repute. They have led the Indian contingent in the Olympics, Sr World Championship, Commonwealth Games, and Asian Games in their respective areas of specialisation.
