On behalf of UGC, the National Eligibility Test (NET) in the month of December 2025 is being conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for determining the eligibility of Indian nationals for the Eligibility for Assistant Professor only or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) & Eligibility for Assistant Professor Both in Indian Universities and Colleges for Humanities subjects.

About NTA and NET December 2025 Examination
National Testing Agency (NTA) has been established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) as a premier, specialist, autonomous, and self-sustained testing organisation to conduct entrance examinations for admission/fellowship in higher educational institutions.
On behalf of UGC, the National Eligibility Test (NET) will be conducted in December 2025 by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for determining the eligibility of Indian nationals for the Eligibility for Assistant Professor only or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) & Eligibility for Assistant Professor for the year 2025 onward, and also admission to Ph.D. in 85 various subjects.
The award of JRF and Eligibility for Assistant Professor, both OR Eligibility for Assistant Professor only depend on the performance of the candidate in both papers of NET in aggregate. However, the candidates qualifying exclusively for Assistant Professor are not to be considered for the award of JRF.
Candidates who qualify the Test for eligibility for Assistant Professor are governed by the rules and regulations for recruitment of Assistant Professor of the concerned universities/colleges/state governments, as the case may be.
The NTA will conduct the next UGC NET in December 2025. The UGC-NET December 2025 will be conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) only. The test will be of 180 minutes and consist of two papers, each with 50 and 100 questions, having 100 and 200 marks respectively.
NTA UGC NET December 2025 Exam Eligibility
- Qualification: Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in a Master’s Degree OR equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognised by UGC in Humanities (including languages) and Social Science, Computer Science & Applications, Electronic Science, etc., are eligible for this Test. The Other Backwards Classes(OBC) belonging to non-creamy layer/Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/ persons with disability (PWD) category candidates who have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in a Master’s degree or equivalent examination are eligible for this Test.
- Age: 30 years as of 01/12/2025. A relaxation of up to 5 years is provided to candidates belonging to OBC/SC/ST/PWD categories, as well as to women applicants. No age limit for the Assistant Professor test and Ph.D. admission.
Application fee
An application fee of ₹1150/- (₹600/- for OBC/EWS candidates and ₹325/- for SC/ST/PWD and Third Gender candidates) to be paid online through SBI/CANARA/ICICI/HDFC Bank/ Debit Card/Credit Card/UPI, and keep proof of fee paid.
