Supreme Court want videography of examination and interview centre

In order to curb malpractices during recruitment for government jobs, the Supreme Court on Friday (6th April, 2018) asked the Centre to consider installing CCTV cameras at the centres for written tests and interview.

“We are of the view that for the purity of selection to public posts, it is desirable that as far as possible the selection process conducted by selection bodies, especially State Public Service Commissions and State Selection Boards, is videographed. It is desirable that at examination centres, CCTV cameras are installed to extent viable. Footage thereof may be seen by an independent committee of three members and report of such committee may be placed on the website concerned,” a bench of Justices A K Goel and R F Nariman said.

The court passed the order while hearing a plea alleging serious irregularities in the selection process of appointment of assistant teachers in government lower primary schools in Meghalalya. It observed that there were "serious irregularities" in the selection process for appointment of assistant teachers in government lower primary schools in the state of Meghalaya.

The Supreme Court bench directed the apex court registry to send a copy of its order to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) for being forwarded to the authorities concerned for compliance.
